Description
  1. 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (29 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
Summary
  1. Dance critics Deborah Jowitt and Jack Anderson discuss current trends in dance with choreographer Senta Driver, who heads the dance company Harry. They examine the modernistic vein introduced to various ballet companies by choreographers William Forsythe, Laura Dean, David Gordon, and Mark Morris, as well as Richard Alston's attempts to stretch the limits of academic ballet. They debate whether a new definition of modern dance should be formulated, and what performance art entails. The discussion also touches upon the defiance of traditional gender roles, cross-dressing, and the increasing attention to production values. Dance excerpts depict the New York Baroque Dance Company's Terpsichore, Driver in performance with Harry, and Mark Dendy's Beat and Wave. In Profile, Jennifer Tipton discusses her work as a lighting designer. An excerpt from Driver's Specialty is seen under the closing credits.
