Summary

Composer Elizabeth Swados and choreographer Michael Peters recount their recent experiences in working with children and teenagers, respectively on the musical Swing and the music video Beat it, which starred Michael Jackson. They pay tribute to their mentors, Ellen Stewart and Bernice Johnson. Peters reminisces about his experience as a young member of the Alvin Ailey dance company. Swados contrasts working in the nonprofit and commercial spheres. The program is illustrated with several excerpts from Swing. Peters' choreography is represented by excerpts from Beat it, and he is also seen teaching at the Bernice Johnson dance school and in performance. In Profile, Kevin Jeff, the founder/director of Jubilation! Dance Company discusses his career decisions, nonprofit and commercial theater, and working with young dancers. The Jubilation! company is seen in brief excerpts.
