- Description
- 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (28 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
- Summary
- Guests are Cassandra Phifer, a dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem; Lisa Lockwood, a freelance dancer formerly with American Ballet Theatre; and choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett. They discuss the experience of "crossing over" from ballet to modern dance, and the ways in which dancers and choreographers can benefit from the interchange. They note differences in partnering and the interaction of dancers and choreographers in the two dance forms. Taylor-Corbett describes working with ABT dancers on Great galloping Gottschalk, excerpts of which (from the video American Ballet Theatre in San Francisco), are screened. Phifer recalls working with David Gordon on Piano movers, and Lockwood talks about learning Paul Taylor's Airs. Phifer is seen dancing Choleric in the Dance Theatre of Harlem's production of Balanchine's The four temperaments, and Lockwood is seen in Great galloping Gottschalk, which also features Christine Spizzo, Deirdre Carberry, Robert La Fosse, and Susan Jaffe. In Profile, Carolyn Carlson talks about her years of working in Europe, particularly for the Groupe de Recherches Théatrales de l'Opéra de Paris (GRTOP) in France.
