Description
1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (29 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences; 3/4 in.
Summary
Choreographer/director John Butler and television director Jerome Schnur reminisce about creating television dance in the early years of the medium (1950s-60s). They recall some of the programs and personalities they worked with, including the dance team of Hal Loman and Joan Fields, producer Pamela Ilott, and Sunday morning religious programs such as Lamp unto my feet. They describe their interaction as collaborators, and some technical lessons they learned from their early experiments. Butler's television choreography is represented by excerpts from: The mark of Cain (b&w), telecast on Lamp unto my feet in 1963, danced by Glen Tetley (Cain), Carmen de Lavallade (Eve), Scott Douglas (Abel), and Wesley Fata (Adam); L'enfance du Christ (b&w), telecast by CBS-TV in 1964, danced by Butler (Joseph) and de Lavallade (Mary); and Jephthah's daughter (color), telecast by CBS-TV in 1966, danced by de Lavallade and Buzz Miller.
