Summary

1. Peter Gordon and David Van Tieghem, composers who have worked together as musicians, discuss both the creative and performing components of their art. Gordon recalls his collaboration with Bill T. Jones on Fever swamp, which is seen in an excerpt performed by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at the end of the program. Van Tieghem describes his performing experiences in the experimental group Footnotes and Judith Scott's improvisational company. He is seen performing an excerpt from his piece Message received--proceed accordingly. He also discusses his work on Twyla Tharp's Fait accompli. Both guests discuss the impact of funding programs that encourage collaboration, and Gordon talks about his work with Kit Fitzgerald, Bill T. Jones, and Arnie Zane on the video for the mixed-media work The return of the native. In Esoterica balletica, Frances Becker demonstrates her flash card system of learning ballet positions.
