Summary

Guests are Eddie Bracken, a writer, director, and singer, and Ralph Allen, a scholar, producer, director, and co-author of the musical Sugar babies, a trailer of which, starring Ann Miller and Mickey Rooney, opens the program. They examine the historical background of vaudeville, describe a typical show and compare it to burlesque, define some vaudeville terms, tell anecdotes about notable performers such as Eva Tanguay, and note the factors that led to its decline (though it survived for a time on the Ed Sullivan Show). In Esoterica balletica, Frances Becker presents a tongue-in-cheek explanation of how dancers remember steps.
