Description
  1. 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (30 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
Summary
  1. George Balanchine's choreographic response to music is discussed by composer/author George Perle, Robert Irving, conductor and music director of the New York City Ballet, and Joseph Duell, principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. Much of the discussion centers around Balanchine's use of modern music, particularly his collaboration with Igor Stravinsky on the ballets Agon and Movements for piano and orchestra. Duell describes how Balanchine worked with his dancers, and his encouragement of Duell's own ballets, Jubilee and La création du monde. Irving talks about conducting for ballet, and Perle quotes Balanchine on the relation of music and dance. In Esoterica balletica, Ipiotis interviews David Bintley, resident choreographer and principal dancer of the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet, on his interpretation of the title role of Fokine's Petrouchka.
