- Summary
- Ballerina Violette Verdy looks back upon her career, which began when she joined Roland Petit's Ballets des Champs-Elysées at age 12. She recalls her early training with Carlotta Zambelli and Mme. Rousane, and the experience of studying and dancing in wartime. She discusses the dancer's need to broaden her horizons and understand life as well as dance. Though she fondly remembers what she loved best about performing, she also recognizes the contributions of non-performing occupations in the dance world. She briefly discusses her work with George Balanchine, particularly in the ballet Liebeslieder Walzer. In Esoterica balletica, William Starrett discusses the proper use of rosin.
