Summary
Guests are Afrika Bambaataa, a composer and rapper who was one of the originators of hip hop, breakdancer Richie Colon, known as "Crazy Legs," dance critic Sally Banes, and filmmakers Henry Chalfant and Charlie Ahearn, who have both documented the hip hop culture. They discuss various aspects of this culture, including breakdancing, the electric boogie, rapping, and graffiti. Banes describes how her Village Voice article of 1981 brought breakdancing to the attention of the mainstream public. Bambaataa talks about the origin and purposes of Zulu Nation, which he organized. The numerous film excerpts include footage from Ahearn's Wild style, Tana Ross's Electric boogie, Chalfant's Style wars, and Beat street.
