Description
  1. 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (28 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
Summary
  1. Guests are Geoffrey Holder and Carmen de Lavallade, who are husband and wife, and their nephew Christian Holder, whose activities have spanned performing, choreographing, designing, and other artistic pursuits. Topics discussed include: Jack Cole's significance as dancer and choreographer; the achievements of Janet Collins, de Lavallade's cousin, in breaking down barriers against black performers; Christian Holder's training in England and the U.S.; de Lavallade's transition from dancing to acting; the often detrimental effects of reviews; and racial stereotyping in casting dance roles. Christian Holder is seen dancing in a recorded excerpt from the opera Samson et Dalila, choreographed by Margo Sappington. A recording of de Lavallade in Geoffrey Holder's The creation closes the program. Christian Holder's parents Boscoe and Sheila relate some anecdotes of his childhood in Esoterica balletica.
