Summary
Guests are Isabelle Fokine, the granddaughter of Mikhail Fokin; notator Gretchen Schumacher; and Donna Baldwin, artistic director of the Mercury Ballet. They discuss various aspects of reconstructing ballets, including the use of notation and video recordings, copyright, quality control, and the need for more legal protection for choreographers. Baldwin describes her company's revivals, many of which have been produced in collaboration with Elisabeth Schooling. An excerpt of John Cranko's Beauty and the beast, performed by the Mercury Ballet, is screened. In Esoterica balletica, Millicent Hodson comments upon Vaslav Nijinsky's integration of tango rhythms into the choreography of L'après-midi d'un faune.
