Summary

Two programs from the documentary series Rito y geografía del baile flamenco, which presents an extended analysis of different aspects of flamenco dancing, in conjunction with other Spanish dance forms. Performances by amateur and professional dancers are recorded on location, onstage, and in dramatized re-creations of scenes from the past. Additional information is provided through interviews with scholars, dancers, musicians, and others associated with the art of flamenco song and dance.

Performance excerpts include: Alegrías, danced by Escudero; Peteneras, danced by Alejandro Vega; El amor brujo, danced by Mariemma; and Tarantos, danced by Fernanda Romero. Commentators include Escudero, who is seen in a filmed interview in his dressing room; Mariemma; and Fernanda Romero. -- Consagración del teatro flamenco (approx. 30 min.). No audio during head and tail credits. Discussion of the establishment of flamenco as a theatrical art. Performance excerpts include: Martinetes, danced by Antonio and company; Segiriyas, danced by Pilar López; and Farrucas, danced by Antonio Gades.
