Summary

Documentary on the deterioration of books, paper, and other materials (film, sound recordings, still photographs, and advanced technologies) in present-day libraries and archives, emphasizing the need for stringent conservation measures. The documentary explores some possible solutions, among them microfilm, deacidification of books and paper, and the use of alkaline paper. The discussion also touches upon the growing use of electronic media, and issues of access to electronically transmitted information.
