Summary
Documentary on traditional dance forms, including square dancing, clogging, and flatfooting, as practiced in several towns in Virginia. The dancers, musicians, and callers Calvin Cole, Verlyn Brady, Nova Deel, Bill McCall, Kirby Smith, and Clifford Steffey discuss their dancing experiences, past and present: what they danced, how the dances were transmitted, and the part that dance played in their lives. Scholars Elizabeth Fine, David Whisnant, and Helen Lewis also offer commentaries. Archival photographs and contemporary footage of dancers in action depict the past and current state of dance.
