SUMMARY: Videotaped in the studio on April 10, 1981 by Hilary Harris and D. A. Pennebaker. Class in Denishawn repertory taught by Klarna Pinska. The dance excerpts demonstrated and/or taught by Pinska, in order of appearance, are: Dance of the red and gold sari (chor.: Ruth St. Denis), Bach (chor.: Ted Shawn), Tanagra (chor.: St. Denis), Soaring (chor.: Doris Humphrey under the artistic supervision of St. Denis), Brahms waltzes (chor.: St. Denis), and Isis [excerpt from Egypta?] (chor.: St. Denis). Throughout the class, Pinska reminisces about St. Denis, Shawn, and her experiences as a member of the Denishawn company. The sections of the tape are incorrectly compiled, and the actual beginning of the class appears at approx. 51 minutes into the tape, followed by a brief glimpse of Marion Rice's class in Denishawn technique at the end of the tape. For a longer version of this section of Pinska's class, and a longer excerpt of Rice's class, see: *MGZIC 9-950 cassette 50.
