1 reel. 28 min. 996 ft. : sd. color and b&w.; 16 mm.
Documentary on the work of dancer/filmmaker Mura Dehn, told in her own words. Her reminiscences about her career as a pioneer jazz dancer are illustrated with historical footage, including an excerpt from the 1937 film Blues in green and orange, a duet with Roger Dodge. Her achievements as a promoter of black jazz dancing are represented by excerpts from her monumental film series The spirit moves, much of which was filmed at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem. James Berry and Al Liggins [also spelled Liegens or Leagens] (the latter seen dancing in the studio with Dehn in 1985) are among the notable dancers depicted. Dehn, who is shown at work filming breakdancers in 1985, contrasts the sociological implications of the lindy hop, be bop, and breakdancing.
