- 22 photographs, by Claire Holt, Jaap Kunst, and uncredited photographers, of gamelan (orchestras) from various times and locations. 24 photographs, by Claire Holt, Alfred Hudson, and uncredited photographers, of Topeng (masks) from different parts of Java; many from the collection of Mangkunagara VII of Surakarta.
- Many of the masks represent characters from the Panji cycle (Panji, Klono, Candra Kirana); others are used in plays derived from the Hindu epics the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.
- 29 photographs, mostly by Claire Holt, depict dance costume accessories (praba or winglike ornaments, headpieces, jewelry) and props (implements and weapons) in the collection of Mangkunagara VII of Surakarta. The noted dancing master Gusti Pangeran Aria Tedjakusuma appears in one photograph.
