Videotaped in a classroom at Adelphi College. Dorothy Bird Villard, a member of the Martha Graham Company in the early 1930s, speaks to a class about her memories of Martha Graham and the Graham technique.
Mrs. Villard describes the key elements of the very early Graham technique, including how it developed and was abstracted.
Topics discussed include: Sacre du printemps, potential motion, use of the five senses, command of the audience, kinetic response, suspended motion, and strong impulses.
Mrs.Villard also discusses her memories of Louis Horst and his role in Martha Graham's choreography.
