Arthur Mitchell is interviewed about his career and about the Dance Theatre of Harlem, which is seen in rehearsal, performance, and candid footage while on tour in Barcelona, Spain. Excerpts recorded in New York depict classes for adults and children, and open house performances at the company's school. Company members Virginia Johnson and Lowell Smith offer brief commentaries. Brief dance excerpts show the company in rehearsals and/or performances of Taras's Firebird, Balanchine's Serenade (with Johnson, Smith, and others), and Mitchell's The greatest.
