SUMMARY: Examines the elements of the Russian classical style which evolved after 1870, presenting a comparison of the choreographic styles of Petipa and Ivanov with an extended discussion of Ivanov's portions of Swan lake. The Act II adagio is analyzed with dancers demonstrating in the classroom, and then danced in costume by Doreen Wells (Swan Queen) and David Wall (Prince Siegfried). Also seen are the adagio from The sleeping beauty Grand pas de deux, danced by Wells and Wall, and the Bluebird pas de deux, danced by Brenda Last and Alan Hooper.
