Summary
Japanese modern dancer Saeko Ichinohe, raised in Tokyo, started dancing at 15 years of age; performed with a modern dance company after graduating from high school; was so impressed by a choreography class with a guest artist from the U.S., Pauline Koner, that she decided to go to U.S. to study. She came to Boston on a travel grant; won the Boston Ballet choreographic competition; studied with Martha Graham on a one-year scholarship, and at Juilliard; travelled throughout U.S. and Europe; won numerous competitions; and is now based in New York City with her own modern dance company.
