- Summary
- At the turn of the century over twelve million immigrants were examined at Ellis Island for their fitness for entry to the United States. The institution is now a crumbling ruin in New York harbor, visited by occasional bands of tourists. The film is an evocation of Ellis Island as a passage in time and national experience. Sequences of this film were originally shown as part of the theater-dance work Recent Ruins. This briefer version may be seen on *MGZIC 9-257 Dance journeys (Videotape).
