In the fourth excerpt José Limón is the speaker. The fifth excerpt contains portions of speeches by Rosemary Park, Martha Hill, Charles Weidman, and Teddy [Theodora] Wiesner on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the American Dance Festival at Connecticut College. In the final excerpt Limón speaks about Emperor Jones and contemporary dance. Other topics discussed by the speakers include the history of modern dance in the United States and the American Dance Festival at Connecticut College, current trends in modern dance, reconstructing Doris Humphrey's New dance, and capturing dance on film.

  • Sound recordings.
Note
  • Recordings made from the audio portion of the outtakes from the film, Festival of the dance (see Festival of the dance, cataloged as: *MGZIC 7-98) between 1972 and 1973. The interviewers are unidentified, and occasionally the voices of the film crew cut in. The final approximate 30 seconds of streaming file 2 consists of ambient noise. The interviews were held in various locations.
  • Title supplied by cataloger.
  • Sound quality is fair. There is some distortion in the recording, which probably arises from deterioration in the original recording. In addition, the recording is marred in sections by extraneous noise as well as occasional short gaps, and there are speakers whose voices are indistinct. However, overall, the interviewees' voices are easily intelligible.
