[Fragments of conversations and directions regarding the filming.] Ted Shawn speaks with an unidentified interviewer about his nickname Papa Shawn; the founding of Jacob's Pillow in the Berkshires (in Lee, Massachusetts); Donald McKayle's work Rainbow 'round my shoulder [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].

[Begins with short iteration of Ted Shawn speaking about Rainbow 'round my shoulder.] Ted Shawn speaks with the unidentified interviewer about why he thinks so many companies present premieres at Jacob's Pillow; the challenge of renovating farm buildings into venues ideal for dance; doing everything possible to make the dancers happy as a goal of the Pillow.

  1. Sound quality is fair. Volume varies, and the conversations are fragmented. However, the interviewer's and Ted Shawn's voices are easily intelligible for the most part.
  2. Unedited commentary recorded at Jacob's Pillow (in Lee, Massachusetts) on July 9, 1969, for the television show Sounds of summer, telecast on August 10, 1968 on WNET-TV. Jac Venza was the producer. The television program is cataloged in the Library's collection under the call number *MGZHB 16-486.
