Walter Terry speaks with Ivan Nagy about interviewing dancers for his book [Great male dancers of the ballet (Garden City, NY: Anchor Books, 1978)]; Nagy speaks about how he creates the character he is dancing; working with Gelsey Kirkland on her first Swan lake; more on creating character, including as Iago in José Limón's The moor's pavane; his own technical abilities; gender roles and ballet; the stamina required for dancing in modern ballet as compared to classical works; partnering, including with Margot Fonteyn, Carla [Fracci], Natalia Markova, Cynthia Gregory, and Gelsey Kirkland; how he feels when he is dancing on his own, without a partner [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
