Leon Danielian speaks with Walter Terry about some of the eminent American danseurs of his generation; playing to the audience, including an anecdote about dancing in a movie house; his first teacher Seda [Madame Seda Suny]; training with Mikhail Mordkin; Anton Dolan and his influence on Danielian; his reasons for leaving Ballet Theatre [later American Ballet Theatre]; joining the Ballets russes du Col. W. de Basil and leaving just before the South American tour; the effect of World War II on American male ballet dancers in the United States; his large repertoire; his self-image as a dancer; Nora Kaye; training male dancers [beginning at approximately 36:50, the frequency and length of sections marred by severe distortion increases significantly]; his demi-caractère roles.

  • Sound quality overall ranges from very good to very poor. The recording is marred by "tape hiss" and there are segments where the voices are extremely distorted; these segments significantly increase in frequency and length at approximately 36:50 minutes into the streaming audio file.
