Summary
Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 47 minutes) and streaming audio file 2 (approximately 12 minutes). Nora Kaye, with occasional remarks from Herbert Ross, speaks with Walter Terry about the [1977] film The turning point including how the idea for the film evolved; the recruiting of Arthur Laurents to write the script; the typically inadequate portrayal of dance on film; the lighting; her goal of showing the dedication of dancers to their art; the characters, plot, and themes of the film including her own decision to retire from performing; the actors including Anne Bancroft, Shirley MacLaine, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Antoinette Sibley; her thoughts on the film The red shoes [beginning at approximately 36 minutes, the sound quality becomes progressively worse].
Interview with Nora Kaye and Herbert Ross conducted by Walter Terry, primarily about the 1977 film The turning point. Ross contributes relatively few remarks to the conversation, and due to poor sound quality, most of what he says is not intelligible. The date and location of the interview are not known, but based on the contents, can be identified as most likely after the film was finished but before its general release (1976 or 1977?).
Sound quality is fair to very poor. The recording is marred by extraneous noise, the volume fluctuates, and the final approximate 15 minutes of the recording is almost completely unintelligible.
