Rebekah Harkness speaks to Walter Terry about dance as an essential part of her life including her taking of daily dance lessons; her new theater [Harkness Theatre] including its purpose and design; her financial support of dance and other fields such as medicine and music; her intention that the theater and the Harkness Foundation continue even after her death; her leaving home as a teenager to perform in the opera Aida; dancers as people; her taste in decorative objects including jewelry; more on the future of her theater including her creating of a dancers' fund to subsidize other companies to perform there; her concern for her dancers' well-being; using her theater as a place to film dance; dance as the focus of her life; her employment experience, in New York City and in St. Louis; how she views her business ability including as a saleswoman.
