Clive Barnes speaks with John Gruen about his own background as a dance critic including his involvement with the Ballet Club at Oxford University and the dance journal Arabesque; becoming the first dance critic ever of The Times; moving to the United States where he now writes for the [New York] Post; seeing Erik Bruhn dance for the first time, with the Metropolitan Ballet in a London suburb; his impressions of Bruhn as a dancer and as a person at that time; seeing him dance in the United States; Rudolf Nureyev and his relationship with Bruhn [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
