[Begins abruptly with the concluding words of a commercial announcement.] John Gruen, host, on the radio program The sound of dance, introduces his guest Lar Lubovitch; Gruen and Lubovitch speak about the organization Dance umbrella; Lubovitch speaks about his background, and training including his time at the Juilliard School of Music; Antony Tudor as a teacher; his diverse experience from dancing for various contemporary choreographers; his time as a member of the Harkness Ballet; upcoming programs his company [Lar Lubovitch Dance Company] will be performing including his work Rapid transit; his work Whirligogs [from approximately 14:40 through 17:48 an excerpt of a recording of the Luciano Berio music and voice-over that accompanies Whirligogs is played; a commercial announcement of approximately two minutes follows]; Lubovitch speaks about his choreography including the venues where his works have been performed; his increasing confidence as a choreographer and correspondingly decreasing interest in designing other elements such as sets and costumes; his work Scherzo for Mastah Jack; his work Whirligogs [from approximately 29:06 through 36:00 an excerpt of a recording of the music by Johann Sebastian Bach, which accompanies Lubovitch's work Prelude in C minor is played]; the relationship between his emotional life and his choreography including his desire to incorporate meaningfulness in his work; dance as his salvation in the wake of a serious illness; [from approximately 42:50 through 48:30, a recording of an excerpt of Igor Stravinsky's work Concerto for two pianos, which accompanies Lubovitch's dance Rapid transit, is played; a commercial announcement of approximately one minute follows]; Lubovitch speaks (very briefly) about Rapid transit; working with his dancers in the studio [announcement of next week's guest, Judith Jamison; music; commercial announcement].
