Summary
Irine Fokine, teacher and director of the Irine Fokine School of Ballet and the Irine Fokine Ballet Company, discusses her early years in Russia and Latvia; her mother Alexandra Fedorova-Fokine; her brother, Leon Fokine; her uncle, Michel Fokine; her mother's dancing and teaching career with the Latvian Opera and Ballet Theater and in New York City; some of her mother's students, including Alicia Alonso. She discusses her marriage and children; her dance career in opera ballets during World War II; the establishment of her school in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and later her professional ballet company and children's theater; her thoughts on the ballet world and teaching children.
