Summary
Discussion of the manifestation of the sex drive in various dance forms; the relationship of sexual energy to artistic expression; the characteristics of masculine, feminine, and neuter genders; the use of sex in television dancing; the American puritan heritage and its effect on sexual permissiveness in television dancing; John Butler, choreographer of the dances to be demonstrated. Mr. Terry introduces the dancers Robert Tucker and David Nilo who demonstrate movements which have been banned from television. Dancers Robert Tucker, Muriel Bennett, June Graham, Yuriko, David Nilo, and Mary Ann Niles are introduced in turn, and they continue to demonstrate movement phrases which have been banned from television.

  • Recorded February 17, 1952. The fourth in the 1951-1952 season of Walter Terry's series, Dance laboratory, held at the Young Men's-Young Women's Hebrew Association, 92nd Street, New York. The season's topic was The sex dances of mankind. After Mr. Terry's lecture excerpts from dances choreographed for television by John Butler were performed by members of the Butler company.
