Hanya Holm speaks about the differences between choreographing for the concert stage and for a musical comedy including her working methods as well as the challenges each of the forms presents; the collaborative aspects of choreographing a musical comedy; her first musical comedy, Davy Crockett; the difference between freedom and license; choreographing the Tarantella in the musical comedy Kiss me Kate including her attempt to capture the dance's folk dance quality; how she approaches the creation of an ethnic or country dance; the use of a Labanotation score from Kiss me Kate in reconstructing the dances; visiting Japan in connection with the new musical comedy, Softly [not found under that title], for which she is choreographer.
