Biography
The Institute of the Black World (IBW) was a community of black scholars, artists, teachers and organizers who came together in Atlanta, Georgia in 1969 under the auspices of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Center. IBW was an independent, non-profit educational institution which served as a center of research, analysis and advocacy. It was actively involved in the struggle to transform the character of black education through its programs of historical research, analysis, and publishing of politically conscious print and audio materials. The ultimate goal of the Institute was to serve as an agent of social transformation for the total American society.
