Summary
C. L. Dellums introduces Helena Wilson, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, and the first speaker of a meeting on the eve of the 28th Anniversary Meeting of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters in Los Angeles, 1953. Wilson talks about belonging to the Ladies Auxiliary since its beginning. M. P. Webster, the international vice-president of the Chicago area, talks about the Pullman Company's exploitation of the Black worker and the grassroots of the Brotherhood, their joining of the American Federation of Labor and their organizing of the Fair Employment Practices Commission. He explains how A. Philip Randolph, A. L. Totten and he himself became in the Brotherhood. C. L. Dellums speaks briefly about organizing the convention. A. P. Randolph delivers a speech that addresses the nature of men and organizations, and the struggles they must endure to grow and prosper. He speaks out against Communism, Nazism, and McCarthyism, and encourages the support of Democracy. He also compares porters' working conditions of the past with those of today and explains the need for unity of unions and federations such as the AFL, the Railroad Adjustment Board, the Railway Labor Executives Association and the Associated Railway Unions of Canada.
