Summary
At the morning session of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters 28th Anniversary Meeting, 1953, A. Philip Randolph speaks on the Brotherhood's contract with the Pullman Company and the need for revisions. He mentions what the Brotherhood is doing for fair employment practices legislation and talks about the history and early struggles of the Ladies Auxiliary. A prayer is read by Dr. Burton and Hold the Fort is sung. Reports of various committes are read and Ashley Totten reads the telegrams sent to the convention, including one sent by President Eisenhower. More committee reports are given; C. L. Dellums, chairman of the Committee on Grievances and Claims, talks about negotiations made the previous year in Chicago between the Pullman Company and Brotherhood representatives. After he explains the negotiation process, a question and answer session follows regarding employees' rights and porters' sleeping conditions.
