Summary
The 15th Anniversary Conference of the Provisional Committee for the Organization of Colored Locomotive Firemen, Brakemen and Switchmen, Washington, D.C., 1955, opens with the singing of Hold the Fort and an invocation by T. T. Patterson. A. Philip Randolph speaks on changes taking place in the South and the decision (May 1954) to desegregate public schools. He also talks about the importance of Blacks being involved in the industrialization of the South, the Southeastern Carriers Conference Agreement and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen along with the White Citizens Council as being enemies of the Negro and Negro worker. Joseph Rauh speaks on the wrongness of prejudice against anybody, not just Negroes. He talks about mileage restrictions and asks workers to cooperate with him and Ben McLaurin in providing all details of cases of discrimination. Randolph speaks again on the Populist movement, industrialization of the south, the emergence of the KKK and the idea of white supremacy. T. T. Patterson speaks on grievances and claims and the principles of their adjustments. He encourages workers to work towards attaining their rights and to be committed to their organization.
