Summary
In a meeting of the Organization of Locomotive Firemen, Brakemen and Switchmen, an unidentified fireman expresses his grievances to A. Philip Randolph concerning problems of firemen on the Central of Georgia Railroad including seniority issues, job qualifications, payment of dues in the firemen's union, and mileage rates. Randolph responds and talks about dues paying, amendments to the Railroad Retirement Act and the honesty and integrity of the Railroad Retirement Board. Delegates who also give reports are Brother Sam, Julius Glass, Brother Bates, and other unidentified speakers. Randolph talks about the requirements for the position as fireman, the diminishing passenger field as opposed to the freight field, and the problems of being employed and finding employment on the railroad. He encourages Black men to become engineers. Another unidentified fireman from the Lousville and Nashville Railroad talks about its discriminatory constitution and bylaws, its gauge rule and a court injunction.
