Summary
  • This recording includes two segments. The first segment features A. Philip Randolph discussing the Dave Beck case which involved his suspension from the AFL-CIO and how it is contributing to anti-trade-union sentiment. He defends the AFL-CIO's reputation and the labor movement. Randolph then gives an update on an amendment to the Railroad Retirement Act regarding severence compensation, the settlement of an issue with the parlor car jobs, and announces that he will talk about his trip to Ghana's independence celebration at a future meeting.
  • The second segment features an earlier meeting in which Randolph speaks about the Sick Committee and their admirable work along with mentioning other unpaid officers of the Brotherhood who have made the organization what it is today. Randolph remarks on the Brotherhood members' high standard of living and participation in and contributions to the NAACP and reminds members that taxes are due in August and to report tips to the IRS. He conclude by telling members to keep up the good work.
