Summary
  • Part two of the Provisional Committee for Organization of Colored Locomotive Firemen, Brakemen and Switchmen's 15th Anniversary Conference (Washington, D. C.)includes a discussion of finances, grievances and claims. Ashley L. Totten gives a report of finances of the firemen and A. Philip Randolph discusses the Brotherhood's legal expenses. T. T. Patterson mentions a conference with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad he recently attended dealing with their grievances and claims. He talks about where the Negro fireman stands today and what he must do to improve his conditions in life and in work. Ben McLaurin talks about a mock trial concerning a man of the Brotherhood and those taking place in the trial. M. P. Webster talks about the elimination of color clauses, the attitude of the Pullman Company representatives about Negros contesting them in negotiations and court cases. He also discusses the handling of grievances, especially the discriminatory type and the investigation of the Southeastern Carriers Agreement. Rosina C. Tucker, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, talks about the importance of women staying committed to the Auxiliary and encourages men to work with their wives in all their efforts. Ben McLaurin adjourns this morning session.
