Summary
The William Williams papers contain correspondence, reports, notices, photographs, scrapbooks, a guest book, watercolors and other items from his terms as Commissioner of Immigration at Ellis Island and Commissioner of New York City’s Dept. of Water Supply, Gas, and Electricity. Ellis Island materials include photographic portraits of immigrants in native dress by Augustus F. Sherman, interior and exterior views of the immigration station by Edwin Levick and others, and two watercolor sketches of people on the island. His papers as Commissioner of Water Supply, Gas and Electricity mainly concern the cost of providing utilities and protection of the City's water sources. Bering Sea Arbitration letters consist of letters to Williams, 1943, thanking him for his published essay on the subject.
