• In 1880 the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) created a Dept. of Scientific Temperance Instruction, headed by Mary H. Hunt (1830-1906), to disseminate medical and social facts about alcohol. After Hunt's death, Cora F. Stoddard (1872-1936) continued the work through the Scientific Temperance Federation (STF) of Boston.

Collection consists of correspondence and printed matter concerning temperance. Correspondence, 1883-1918, includes letters to Hunt and Stoddard relating to their activities on behalf of the WCTU and the STF. Also, one folder of printed temperance materials.
