Summary
  1. Collection consists of correspondence, writings, subject files, files of Pickett and James B. Ferguson, photographs, realia, and printed matter. Correspondence, 1968-1987, is mostly incoming and concerns Pickett's political activism, journalism, and family matters. Writings, ca. 1970-1986, include manuscript drafts and typescripts of his poems and articles, extensive clippings of articles and columns, and miscellaneous editorial files pertaining to the New York City News. Personal files, 1965-1988, contain AIDS treatment diary kept by Pickett's friends during his final illness; Pickett's notebooks describing his dreams; and EST seminars he attended; his academic records from Hunter College; a "Memorial Book" prepared by his friends; and some photographs. James B. Ferguson files, 1977-1984, include clippings of his articles and reviews, photocopies of his notes, and printed materials. Bulk of the collection consists of Pickett's subject files, ca. 1970-1986, which deal almost exclusively with gay themes. Files contain correspondence, clippings, press releases and other printed ephemera.

  1. Harold Edward Pickett (1947-1988) was a gay rights activist, journalist, poet, and editor. Pickett contributed poems and articles to gay newspapers and magazines in various U.S. cities. In 1980 he founded New York City News, a news magazine for the gay and lesbian community, and was editor/publisher until it ceased publication in 1985.
