  1. 40 copies printed in Poestenkill, N.Y., 1990-1991, on specially watermarked paper handmade at the Kaldewey Press; watermark based on a sculpture and print by the artist, Not Vital. One of 30 copies issued in binding by Christian Zwang; signed in pencil by the calligrapher and the artist.
  2. English text (translation by Ezra Pound, from Confucius: the great digest, 1950) printed on leaf of silver foil-laminated Chinese tea chest paper (leaf [17]).

"In each copy [Vital] freely drew an unbroken pencil line from a starting point at the top center of the first text page, meandering off course randomly ... to encircle or to block off one to four indivdiual Chinese characters per page, to the bottom of the last page, ending in a punctuation of ... black paint"--Rainwater, p. 86. Initialed in pencil at end. -- 1 drawing (on t.p.) : pencil ; 8 x 7 cm. An outline tracing of the watermark (cf. note on the specially watermarked paper, above).
