  • Views of Charleston: general and street views, including views from balconies and a view of a trolley; views of war damage and sites, including the Battery, Vendue Range where the "first shell struck," ruins of the Circular Church including burying ground, and Institute or "Secession" Hall; the Battery: East Battery from a balcony with chair and table in foreground, African American boys with baskets, homes beyond, bathing house and the Battery, the Jasper Monument; shipping, including views of ships off the battery, at dock, including the steamer "Planter" loaded with barrels, view of cotton on a wharf; churches: St. Michaels, including interior view, Lutheran, Unitarian; homes; Charleston Hotel; Roper Hospital; the Citadel; Customs house; Post Office; gardens, palmetto trees, a tea rose; men in a buggy in front of the Charleston water works; Magnolia Cemetery: African American man sitting beneath oaks, lake, chapel, Infantry monument; sculpture of John C. Calhoun by Hiram Powers in city hall [later removed to Columbia and destroyed when Sherman entered the city].
