Summary
Stereoscopic views from the 1873 Wheeler expedition in Arizona and New Mexico: views at Zuni Pueblo: the pueblo, showing levels and ladders, Zuni girl with water olla on her head, gardens from the pueblo, showing walls dividing them from each other and the desert, beyond, group of men and boys, "Zuni war chief" with necklaces, blanket and gun, standing near ladder; Canyon de Chelly: ruins in the canyon wall, Circle Wall, where the canyon bends almost 90̊ with tents an expedition members in foreground, Explorers Column rock formation; central part of the canyon, view of Camp Beauty, Navaho woman weaving, corn hanging from tree above her, another person looking on, Navaho woman and child among the rocks of the canyon; Navaho woman and boys in front of quarters at Old Fort Defiance (then the agency for the Navaho), woman is wearing dress, leggings and patterned blanket, boys have bows and arrows; Navaho man and his mother; Apache Lake in the Sierra Blanca, east of Camp Apache, Arizona, including view of Coyotera Apache Scouts and two members of the expedition; Cooley's ranch, east of Camp Apache, where Apache Indians farm; Coyetero Apache group and wickiup near Camp Apache; Apache Indians "as they appear ready for the war-path," with spear, bow and arrows and rifle. Some views duplicated.
