- Richard Ward Greene Welling (1858-1946), New York City lawyer and reformer, was founder of the National Self Government Committee and president of the George Junior Republic. He was active in political and municipal reform and belonged to many social and political organizations.

- Collection consists of correspondence, writings, scrapbooks, personal papers, photographs, and printed matter. Correspondence, ca. 1894-1941, relates to Welling's involvement with various social, political, cultural, and reform organizations. Writings include typescript of his autobiography, As the Twig is Bent; articles he wrote; and his diaries, 1883-1945. Scrapbooks, 1876-1946, contain materials covering a wide range of topics. Also, personal papers, photographs (mainly of Welling), and printed matter concerning politics.
