  1. In an ALS, 1895 Feb. 28, from Otto Richter, Dresden, to Mary Banks Burrell, London, Dr. Richter copies Wagner's retort from the manuscript. Richter encloses a copy he has made of a letter from Wagner to theater authorities answering criticism of his scheme. 2 documents in the hand of Mrs. Burrell include portions of the manuscript which were omitted from the publication and a penciled notation at the end of the manuscript written by Kammermusicus Julius Rühlmann. The manuscript itself is not included in this collection.

  1. In 1848-1849, German composer Richard Wagner outlined a plan for the organization of a German national theater for the Kingdom of Saxony. A manuscript copy of his plan was read and considered, penciled remarks were added, and a penciled retort to these remarks added by Wagner himself. The manuscript was published in the Gesammelte Schriften in 1871, but without these remarks and with other omissions.
