Summary
The correspondence, papers, music, diaries, scrapbooks, programs, and photographs gathered here represent the musical career of Carl V. Lachmund and his collection of Liszt and some Wagner material. The collection holds rare concert programs from Germany in the 1880s, and holograph Liszt music manuscripts. It also contains first-hand reports of Liszt's music classes and daily life in Weimar through diaries and a book manuscript. Liszt's earlier life is also covered through anecdotes and reminscences in newspaper and journal articles, some of which were written by the Lachmunds.

Lachmund collection represents the musical career of Carl Lachmund, a student of Franz Liszt, and Lachmund's subsequent devotion to the remembrance of Liszt's personality and the advancement of his music. Lachmund was Liszt's student from 1882 to 1884, established the Lachmund Conservatory of Music, and wrote a book "Living With Liszt" about his student years in Weimar.
