Summary
  1. Collection consists of correspondence, speeches, memoranda, press releases, reports, plans, photographs, clippings, and other printed matter documenting the career of Robert Moses.
  2. Committee for Slum Clearance series reflects Moses's activities in the area of urban housing and redevelopment. Correspondence regarding the New York State Power Authority concerns the development of power generating facilities on the Niagara and Saint Lawrence rivers. The 1964-1965 World's Fairs files consist of correspondence and memoranda about the soliciting and construction of exhibits and facilities at the fair and the administration of the fair after its opening. Also, a selection of the many speeches and addresses Moses made throughout his career; letters, reports and press releases concerning housing; printed matter including reports, speeches, magazines, and clippings on a variety of subjects of interest to Moses; and publicity and news service photographs of Moses.

  1. Robert Moses (1888-1981) was a public official in New York from 1919 to the mid-1970s. He held many offices, of which the most notable among them were: President, Long Island State Park Commission; Chairman, New York State Council of Parks; Commissioner, New York City Department of Parks; New York City Planning Commissioner and Construction Coordinator; and Chairman, New York State Power and Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authorities. He was responsible for the construction of many major public projects in the state and city of New York, including the Triborough Bridge, Queens Midtown Tunnel, Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Henry Hudson Bridge, Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, Throg's Neck Bridge, and Verrazano Narrows Bridge, as well as Jones Beach State Park, Robert Moses State Park, and Robert Moses Power Plant and Power Dam on the Saint Lawrence and Niagara Rivers. Moses also was responsible for the construction of much public housing in New York City.

  1. Robert Moses (1888-1981) was a public official in New York from 1919 to the mid-1970s.
